If you are new to using Joomla, then there are few things that you should do and some things that you should avoid doing. Here is a list of Joomla dos and don’ts for beginners:
The Dos
The Dos
- Start by downloading and reading every single line of the Joomla installation manual. There are 2 basic versions – an online one and an offline one.
- Browse through the help.joomla.org site, which has been designed keeping beginners in mind. There are plenty of helpful resources and it is the best place to get free advice.
- Use a good search engine to find all the Joomla tips, tricks and tutorials you can. There are millions of free Joomla resources out there.
- Get yourself a good Joomla book.
The Don’ts
- Never start using Joomla without first reading up on it. It is an extremely powerful SMS but it takes time to get used to it. If you are frustrated because things are not going your way easily, then don’t get disheartened – all developers have been frustrated in the initial phases! Hang on in there, and the Joomla community will help you.
- Never upload your Joomla site to your host and start experimenting with it online! Any Joomla newbie should first experiment offline. Experimenting and learning online can bring about certain risks to your site.
- Never ask a question on the forum without first searching. The Joomla community is a large and helpful community that can easily help you find a solution to your problem. But it is advisable to search through search engines before you post your problem on the forums. This will help save yours as well as other people’s time.
