Both these Content Management Systems have recently come up with new and effective releases and most developers aren’t yet familiar with these new versions. Yes, software security is a very important topic, especially since we use Web 2.0 activities where we expose our companies to content change access to non-employees.

Both the Joomla and Drupal engineers and communities pay very careful attention to security issues. The Drupal community takes security issues very seriously and there is even a special security team to handle this area. The main goal of this team is to identify and then resolve any security issues.

There are a few security concerns that reflect the CMS’ differing approaches:

Joomla’s main focus is on content management and security is only about access control. The features of Joomla 1.6 are indeed extremely evolutionary but are still limited to the security of content itself.

In contrast, as far as Drupal is concerned, everything that exists is considered to be an object, which could range from content and media to applications, and much more. Drupal’s security principles are designed to integrate with a third-party application in a highly flexible and secure way.

Yes, Drupal has lesser vulnerabilities than Joomla. Joomla on the other hand, is far more vulnerable because of the number of exploits and because of the severity and the ability to trigger off an exploit.
